Usage tips
Stick the stick in an incense burner filled with sand or ashes. The Palo Santo stick does not burn in one go: you must let the flame flourish for 30 seconds to a minute then shake the stick to extinguish the flame and activate the embers. It must be relighted 1 to 2 times, or 3 to 6 minutes of combustion, to obtain a sufficiently powerful and lasting scent in the room. A stick can therefore be used around thirty times.

It is with copal and kandea, one of the emblematic materials of South American incense. Its scent is resinous, woody, floral and fruity. Its scent is concentrated in its wood and branches and is not expressed in the form of resin, like frankincense. Its use for spiritual purposes dates back to the Incas. Palo Santo belongs to the same botanical family as myrrh and frankincense, that of Burseraceae. This tree grows in the arid tropical forests of northern Peru and Ecuador. Its fragrance as well as its physical and medicinal properties make it a raw material of choice for sculpted religious objects. Please note: Palo Santo (Sacred Wood) is a Spanish name which also designates other species of trees including Bulnesia Sarmientoi which is found in northern Argentina, Paraguay in the Amazon and which is a protected species.
