Asafoetida is a plant similar to a giant fennel over 4 meters tall. When its resin is extracted, a kind of whitish latex flows out. Like most resins, it hardens immediately upon contact with air. The hiltite then changes from a pinkish color to an almost red color. You can use this natural resin as incense. Be careful, its smell is very strong and may be considered unpleasant/disagreeable by some. It is also called Fetid Asa.
